Stumped on how to thank you for all your support. I’ll make it up to you I promise! In the meantime, here’s a note I wrote last week:

I sometimes feel guilty for sharing almost entirely positive ideas and stories. Especially when faced with reality, mine included, where everything is definitely not always upbeat. And even moreso when I have a hard time following half of my own advice in the first place.

Sometimes my initial caption to a photo isn’t so uplifting. Sometimes it’s got a few expletives, colourfully worded sentences, or hopeless sentiments. But one consistent reaction I have to writing anything that’s not uplifting is that it isn’t me, it holds no value.

When has an argument ever been resolved by an abrupt impulsive response? When was a lesson taught by spewing the first words that metastasized in your mouth? What value is there in throwing hurtful words at something you don’t agree with?

My mom was a textbook mother – she had all the clichéd “mom” lines, but she delivered them at just the right time. “Think before you speak”. “Practice patience.” But most applicable today: “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” Some clichéisms ring so much truth they’ve earn their page in the clichéclopedia.

But ultimately what gets me about an uplifting message, time and time again, is simply that: it’s positive. Positivity trumps negativity, just as love trumps hate. Compassion is the only way, and even though some days I’m sure my words don’t have any value, a positive message will travel lightyears farther than any other one. And in this seemingly imbalanced and uncertain world, a positive affirmations feels like the only thing left to share. 💛
