Jasper National Park is such an incredible place. Canoing Maligne Lake was the most serene, rewarding experience we could have asked for. I paddled with Momo and @xshaydx 3 hours out (15km) to see Spirit Island. Turns out we didn’t make it quite far enough, Spirit Island was about another kilometre, but the sun had set and it was getting cold. I’ll definitely come back and try again.

So we started heading back. Maligne Lake is so far away from anything that it was unlikely we’d run into any other boaters, and gas powered motors aren’t allowed on the lake, so we were able to paddle slow and steady and enjoy the stars. With no moon, the milky way arched above us and the Big Dipper led the way North West. We saw dozens of shooting stars, a lightning storm on the horizon, and some mysterious lights floating above a mountain range.

No wind, just stars and paddling. We got back at midnight, 30km later. Taking this time reminded me of the healing power of spending quality time with nature. And also a solid reminder that I need to get back into shape. #travelalberta
