I got some amazing news yesterday. Momo’s hip dysplasia is (in the words of Dr. King) “very very very very very minor”. He doesn’t need any surgeries. Hearing this completely elated me. I had to take a minute to appreciate life and all of its fragility.
Plus, he’s been feeling way better. Since learning about his hips, we changed his diet, have been cautiously consistent with his exercise, and have been giving him massages. We’ve have already seen some amazing results. We’re still carefully balancing things, and I’m making sure he’s got the vet’s recommended amount of glucosamine, chondroitin, and omega 3s. Thanks so much to all of you who shared advice and sent good vibes.
One lesson I’ve pulled from this is that pet insurance ain’t at all a bad idea. If we’d needed the surgery, insurance would have likely covered 90% of the $10k+ bill.
(Note that Momo only jumped in a few times since the water was cold! We warmed him up right after he got out, but he was stoked to be swimming.)
